Accessibility at our B&B
Crafnant House is an old Victorian building, however, we aim to make everybody’s stay as comfortable as possible!
Here is the accessibility information you may need to make an informed decision about whether you wish to choose our B&B as a place to stay:
Accessing our home
Our flat, gravelled private car park is at the rear of the property
To reach the entrance of our home you need to walk back up the drive which is tarmac and has a slight incline
There is one step to reach the front terrace and entrance area (which has loose stones) and another step at the front door to enter the house
Layout of our home
The rooms of the building are set over three floors
All guest bedrooms are on the middle or top floor - we have no bedrooms on the ground floor
We don’t have a lift to the middle or top floors and for this reason we unfortunately don’t consider our rooms to be wheelchair accessible
We are of course available at both check-in and check-out to assist with access or luggage
Location of our bedrooms
Guest bedrooms 1, 2 and 3 are on our middle floor - to reach it there is a staircase to a small landing (11 steps) followed by a second, smaller staircase (4 steps)
Guest bedrooms 4 and 5 are on our top floor - to reach it there is a staircase to a small landing (11 steps) followed by a smaller staircase (4 steps), then a second main staircase (10 steps) followed by a smaller staircase (4 steps)
Access to bathrooms
All rooms have compact en-suites or external private shower rooms accessed through standard width doors
There is one step to access the shower in all en-suites and shower rooms
No bedrooms have baths or adapted toilets
Public areas
Breakfast is served in our dining room which is on the ground floor
We have a guest lounge (‘The Snug’) on the ground floor and another guest lounge on the middle floor
The entrance hallway has vinyl flooring whilst all staircases and rooms are carpeted
Accessibility for visually impaired guests
Assistance dogs are welcome - please contact us to discuss which room will be suitable for you
Please be aware we have our own dog, Bryn, a golden retriever - he is extremely friendly and lives ‘behind the scenes’ with us
Guest information, breakfast menus and other information can be made available online or provided either in large print or audio form on request in advance of your stay
Our smart HD televisions can provide subtitles
Complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the house
Fire and evacuation
Fire evacuation notices are present on the rear of each bedroom door
We live on site so if assistance would be required in the event of evacuation please inform us on arrival
Dietary requirements
We are happy to cater for alternative and specialist diets at breakfast including vegetarian, vegan, halal, coeliac, gluten-free, lactose-free and nut-free - please inform us in advance where possible
Our kitchen and larder contains products and ingredients that contain seeds, nuts and other allergens - cross-contamination is of course avoided wherever possible
Please inform us of any food allergies and intolerances, and ask us if you require information on the ingredients in the food we serve
Allergies - feathers & animal fur
Duvets, pillows and cushions containing feathers are present throughout our home both in public and private areas
We can remove such items from individual guest bedrooms but unfortunately cannot remove them from the whole house
People allergic to animal fur should be aware that there we have our own pet dog - Bryn, a Golden Retriever - who lives ‘behind the scenes’ but occasionally has access to communal guest areas
Access to our garden
Our large garden is at the rear of our car park and is accessed by going down a few brick steps
The garden is flat and is a mixture of stone paths, gravel seating areas and grass lawns
Access to our village amenities
Trefriw is a traditional Welsh village set in a valley at the bottom of a hillside
The main road through the village is mainly flat but has sections where there are no pavements and which are only partially lit
Side streets leading off the main road are extremely steep
The Old Ship pub, the Fairy Falls pub, and Chandlers Brasserie - for evening meals - are just a few steps from our B&B along a pavement with a very slight incline
Sustainability at our B&B
More than ever we are conscious of our environmental responsibilities given both where we live in Eryri | Snowdonia and that we are an accommodation provider encouraging people to visit and holiday in this beautiful part of Wales.
We therefore try to ‘think sustainable’ in everything we do and aim to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever we can - anything you can do to assist whilst you stay with us is really appreciated!
Food sustainability
We ask guests to choose their hot breakfast dish the night before - this reduces food waste eg. if you don’t like mushrooms then we won’t cook them for you!
Any food waste generated is composted as appropriate
Breakfast products such as our meat, eggs, dairy products and coffee are locally sourced from independent producers
Relevant products from further afield are Fairtrade where possible
Waste, recycling and single-use plastics
Waste in guest bedrooms is separated and recycled where possible
Items on hospitality trays are put in jars where possible to avoid single-use wrappings
We offer guests flasks of fresh milk for use in bedrooms instead of single-use plastic pots
Our tea bags are Fairtrade, plastic-free (compostible), unwrapped and unbleached
‘Coffee bags’ and their packaging on hospitality trays are fully compostible
High quality toiletries are provided in larger dispensers to avoid single-use plastic bottles in bathrooms
Our tap water is drinkable and reusable metal water bottles are provided in all guest bedrooms to encourage people not to buy bottled water
Cotton tote bags are provided in all guest bedrooms for shopping and days out
Our efforts to reduce single-use plastic items was recognised with the award of Plastic Free Champion status by Surfers Against Sewage
And in 2023 we were accredited by Eryri | Snowdonia National Park and awarded Copa (Gold) status in recognition of our efforts to minimise use of single-use plastics
Energy and heating
By choice our electricity comes from renewable sources
Low energy smart and LED lighting and bulbs are in place throughout the B&B
Heating is only on at key times of the day and additionally low energy wall heaters are also available in all guest bedrooms
Our original sash windows have been refurbished to reduce drafts and noise
Curtains are thermal lined to minimise drafts
Radiators are thermostatically controlled
Modern, efficient electric showers are present in all en-suite and private shower rooms
Towels are only replaced during your stay on request
Shop local!
Photographs, artworks, pottery and decorative items throughout the house are from local artists, artisans and producers
Travel and transport
You will not find us hopping in the car to reach the shops in our nearest town, Llanrwst - we usually walk or cycle!
For the nearest electric car charging points click here for the Zap-Map finder tool - type in our postcode: LL27 0JH
Whilst most guests arrive by car, North Wales has good public transport links to use when you both travel here and plan your activities and days out - our ‘location’ page has more information about how to travel to us
COVID-19
We are taking bookings as normal for 2025!
Our flexible cancellation policy means you can make travel plans with complete peace of mind.
Whilst the pandemic is over and coronavirus regulations have ended in Wales we know that COVID-19 is still ‘out there’ and some people are still weary and cautious when travelling.
We therefore want you to feel safe and comfortable during your stay with us as the health and safety of you, other guests and ourselves is paramount.
These then are the measures we are still taking in our B&B regardless before, during and after your stay:
Before your stay:
A comprehensive COVID-19 risk assessment was completed and is still regularly reviewed
Bedrooms and bathrooms - and all fixtures and fittings - are cleaned regularly with particular focus on ‘touch points’ eg. door handles, light switches, sockets, surfaces, electrical items and laminated notices
All linens and towels are laundered between guests, whether used or not
Items on hospitality trays are cleaned and disinfected between guests
During your stay:
We conduct frequent cleaning of communal ‘touch points’ in our home, particularly at the entrance and in public areas
Frequent cleaning also of our kitchen, where your breakfast is prepared, mirroring our current 5* food hygiene rating
We offer ‘to go’ takeaway breakfasts for maximum flexibility - please just ask for details!
We ask of you:
As of 28th March 2022 face coverings are no longer required in retail shops or on public transport in Wales
All other COVID restrictions and regulations have been lifted in Wales
You therefore do not need to where a mask in our home unless of course you wish to do so
They are also no longer needed for hospitality venues such as cafes, bars, restaurants, theatres and cinemas
Please do not travel if you are showing any symptoms - throughout 2025 direct bookings can be modified or cancelled free of charge up to the day before your arrival for maximum flexibility
Please leave the window of your room open where possible before leaving it, either for the day or at the end of your stay (subject to the weather!), to air it
Please don’t hesitate to contact us during your stay should you need anything or have any concerns, either by text or in person
Should you feel unwell at any stage during your stay please inform us as soon as possible and we will advise suitable action
If you have any concerns or questions please get in touch with us, but life is ‘back to normal’ in Wales and we really do hope you enjoy your stay with us in Snowdonia!
